The important thing in Ferrosilicon storage is paying attention to moisture proofing and waterproofing in the transportation and storage process because Ferrosilicon reacts with moisture or water releasing flammable and toxic gases. When Ferrosilicon is exposed to water or humidity, after a certain period of time, while the content of aluminum, calcium, and phosphorus impurities is high, it will cause the phenomenon of pulverization, and then it will cause the release of stink, toxic phosphine (PH3) and hydrogen (ASH3) gas, and even serious combustion phenomenon. Aluminum, phosphorus, and calcium in Ferrosilicon will cause Ferrosilicon pulverization. Ferrosilicon is easily pulverized when the humidity is high and the content of aluminum and phosphorus is increased to a certain value at the same time. When the phosphorus content of Ferrosilicon is less than 0.04% and aluminum content is less than 3%, the probability of the pulverization phenomenon is too low. The other important matter is that the containers storing the chemicals should be tightly closed when they are not in use. They should be kept in a dry and well-ventilated area, and away from incompatible materials. The chemicals can be stored in fiberboard containers, drums, pails, jars, and bulk bags.

Health Problems Caused By Frequent Contact With Ferrosilicon :

Inhalation: If you inadvertently inhale Ferrosilicon powder, it may cause respiratory discomfort like coughing.
Eyes: Contact with the eyes causes dryness.
Skin: It can cause irritation to the skin.
Chronic Problems:Prolonged exposure might lead to speech problems and difficulty in movement.

Personal Protection That Should Be Taken In Contact With Ferrosilicon :

• Safety goggles or protective eyewear approved by OSHA is required for eye protection.
• Protective gloves and clothing must be used to avoid skin exposure.
• Smoking, drinking, or eating near storage facilities is strictly prohibited. This may result in fire or accidental ingestion.
• P2 filter respirators must be used for respiratory protection from harmful particles.
